Event Lecture and talk
With Granaton (artist/blogger, Berlin) and Rabea Edel (moderation)
Those who want to go places on the internet with a pseudonym have to overcome many obstacles. The creator of Granaton made up her first virtual avatar in 1999 and saw the emotional potential of a name. A gallery owner, she analysed the necessary aspects for pseudonyms in the art world and the importance of a good name to achieve major success. For her private identity, she uses a geonim, which she wears personally and virtually. The name Granaton is a very young pseudonym that was created in early 2013. She uses it for professional appearances in her new identity as an online artist. She checks all the capabilities, boundaries and hurdles that can occur with a pseudonym down to the very last detail. She shares her experiences with future artists. A helping hand for all those that would like a tag and are in search of concrete tips.
Presenter: Rabea Edel
Granaton is one of her namesake’s five identities. Being the youngest, she is both a spoiled diva and a cocky nerdette, light years ahead of her other identities when it comes to internet issues. Granaton blogs, designs websites, gives online advice and trawls her way through social media. She keeps a logbook on this topic from which she gleans an abundance of far-reaching insights.
Rabea Edel, born in 1982, regularly presents and curates readings and cultural events for publishers, cultural institutions and festivals. Since 2013, Rabea Edel has also been the chief editor of the “REVUE – Magazine for the Next Society”. She works in cross-disciplinary projects with musicians and visual artists, and is the author of two novels. She lives and works as a freelance journalist and presenter in Berlin.
